Research Fellow @SVR - Expert Council on Integration and Migration in Berlin. Formerly @dgapev, @FU_Berlin and @DelorsBerlin. Working on integration, asylum & migration policies. Current focus: naturalization of refugees. Views my own.
6/7 People lived in Germany on average 11,8 years prior to #naturalization, longer than in 2023. Interesting as the minimum was shortened to 5 years! The average hides a mixed picture: Syrians resided in Germany 7,4 years, while Turks over 23 years. Again: the effect of the 2024 reform is clear.

3/7 Syrians, most of whom have a #refugee background, remain the biggest group (28%)
4/7 Significant increase among persons who in the past could normally not keep their nationalities (esp. Russians and Turks) - clear effect of the 2024 reform!

5/ #Cyprus is divided and the government of the Republic of Cyprus, member state of the #EU has no control over the north, where most boats arrive. Geography and geopolitics make #Cyprus the EU country with the highest number of asylum applications per capita.

4/ The situation in #Lebanon has been driving increasing numbers of refugees to leave and seek refuge elsewhere. The first destination is #Cyprus because, well, geography: Lebanon borders #Israel and #Syria.

#Germany is satisfied with the results of its temporary #bordercontrols and will prolong them beyond 15.12. until mid-February. In my interview with Badische Zeitung, I explain what effects these controls have and warn against false expectations @dgap.org www.badische-zeitung.de/migrationsfo...

Today @dgap.org welcomed an important stakeholder to share their views on research strategy. They brought crayons and were impressed that everybody spoke English so well. #kitazu
