Must-Read Parenting Books

Love reading the latest parenting books? Me too. I actually read books before I interview the authors or write about the material. I know, novel. Let’s discuss.

Are you an introvert or are you raising introverted or sensitive kids? Read “Sensitive” by Jenn Granneman & Andre Solo. The book showcases the hidden power of this beneficial character trait while helping others to understand & support highly sensitive people. #recommend #parentingbooks #booksky

In Grown & Flown by Heffernan & Harrington, the authors help #parents learn how to support their teens as they “fly the coop.” The answers lie in reassuring capability and preparing our kids to be independent while staying connected. #recommended #booksky #parentingbooks @grownandflown.bsky.social

In Under Pressure by Dr. Lisa Damour, she reminds us to empathize while providing a different lens. For example, if your daughter doesn’t make the team, you might say, “while I don’t think this means you won’t get into college, sounds like today stunk.” #parentingbooks #parentingauthors

Yessss! So many great books to read- why settle on ones you don’t enjoy or you do t think help you learn, grow, relax, laugh or something else worthwhile?
I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?

Be warned, there's some fairly disturbing content that's hard to read at times, but I think it also is helpful in that it's really getting into some of our worst fears about raising boys. I appreciate how honest and introspective the author is, examine her beliefs from different angles.

I love Lisa Damour’s books. And she gives great interviews too on her info. She just came out with The Emotional Lives of Teenagers (also on my shelf). #parentingbooks #booksky
Yes, definitely addresses both. I haven't read "Under Pressure".

It really continues a conversation begun in "The Coddling of the American Mind" (Which I also highly recommend) about the harms of social media and un-fettered access to the internet especially for children and teens.

Great, thanks. And I imagine regarding both boys and girls (vs just girls like Lisa Damour’s Under Pressure).
Coddling looks more at education/ college campuses, a continuation of some of the stuff from "How to Raise an Adult", especially valuable for teachers. This one's targeted a bit more to parents and those with pre-teens/ teens
