I don’t belive I’ve seen those photos but would love to see them. I remember seeing many death certificates of people from Cville who died st Central State.

Yes! From the article—“Among the historic images is a photo of Louis Armstrong on campus, and Davis says that other celebrities who visited the site include Lena Horne and Ella Fitzgerald. It’s not the stars who stand out, however, it’s the faces of the patients, so many unknown and unhonored.”

When I first saw the video of JC singing that song to men in prison, I was startled by their enthusiastic, raucous response to that line. She misstepped but she chose exactly the right allusion to emphasize the extraordinary mix of fearlessness, empathy, and brilliance that was Johnny Cash.

He was a wonderful, brave human being and he gave so much to this community. He will be missed. I like to think that he has been reunited now with his beloved Lorraine.

Thanks for sharing these photos, Daniel. So interesting to see how they look when they're fresh out of the ground. And it took me back to a song from childhood . . . youtu.be/nvm6GeeIc7E?...

I do! Years ago I adopted a stray cat and took her to the vet for shots. When we got home she found a dead bird in the yard and before we could get it away from her she inhaled it, feathers and all. I remember her fondly whenever I come home from the doctor or dentist with a voracious appetite. 😭

I know, John. I know. I'm so sorry. Gotta say though, I love how you love your tomatoes. It puts a big smile on my face every time you post about it. 😊

I love it. And my personal favorite:
