Minnesota native here. There's a certain romanticism surrounding great lakes shipping so this was a sad tragedy. Lightfoot's song certainly propelled it to a wider audience. I saw him perform live downtown Minneapolis several decades ago just for this song.

Moderate Dems got spooked by threat of ending the filibuster. They have an illusion of control but caving will only give them less power. The threat will always be there. Dump the filibuster and make R's do it. They can own all the unpopular legislation they can get passed.
