I don't agree. I'm talking about the form of performance here, and it has nothing to do with the content. I've seen radiohead 3 times and each time was set up so they could see each other.

I mean Philip Selway has his back to Thom Yorke. I think that is insane!

I get that. However I think it is very weird and antithetical to the whole concept of playing a live show. I am making this observation as someone who spent his 20's and 30's touring the world playing thousands of shows with dozens of different bands. It radically changes the dynamics on stage.

Knowledge is relational. Gettier’s problem presupposes a thing called ‘knowledge’ existing inside a subject.

Dennett’s ontology is pure violence. It voids the epistemic ground of moral agency by reducing being to causal function.

Not surprising based on your original skeet, but it’s really awful stuff...same level of coherence as an Ayn Rand axiom. Dennett mistakes description for explanation & ends up with a metaphysics of mechanism that explains everything except meaning itself.

Langer 1958: "There is one other function of the arts that benefits not so much the advance of culture as its stabilization – an influence on individual lives. This function is the converse and complement of the objectification of feeling, the driving force of creation in art:

Art education is the education of feeling, and a society that neglects it gives itself up to formless emotion. Bad art is corruption of feeling, This is a large factor in the irrationalism which dictators and demagogues exploit."

The result is an impregnation of ordinary reality with the significance of created form. This is the subjectification of nature that makes reality itself a symbol of life and feeling.
The arts objectify subjective reality, and subjectify outward experience of nature.

Wherever art takes a motif from actuality - a flowering branch, a bit of landscape, a historic event, or a personal memory, any model or theme from life - it transforms it into a piece of imagination, and imbues its image with artistic vitality.

it is the education of vision that we receive in seeing, hearing, reading works of art - the development of the artist's eye, that assimilates ordinary sights (or sounds, motions, or events) to inward vision, and lends expressiveness and emotional import to the world.

This is a profound framing. Thanks for articulating this.
Are you familiar with the work of Susanne Langer?
She offers a framework for understanding this shift from art as a symbolic form - embodying & communicating felt life - to art as a sign or signal to be decoded.
