I’m just this guy, you know?

I’m into cooking, woodworking, gardening, birding, cats, reading, road trips, the green revolution, EVs, solar, wind, etc.

Note: I’m not the original MBH; I’m the authentic MBH. Don’t accept imitators.
At least one of our local Common Pheasants has finally figured out how to eat out of our new Finches Friend feeder. Birds are birds though, so I say “if you can get to it, you’re welcome to it.” :)

Earlier this week my wife and I were walking on a forest path near Milicz, Poland. We stumbled upon a tree that was alive with woodpeckers. Great Spotted, Middle Spotted, and this one, a Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius).

Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus). I was lucky to see these a bit north-west of Wroclaw, as there are <200 breeding pairs in Poland.

A handful of Sedge Warblers (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus)! Once they get going, they really are belting out the tunes, but that’s why we love ‘em. :)

Seen in and around the Warta River Mouth National Park in western Poland.

From Cedynia in western Poland: last week we spotted loads of Grey Herons (Ardea cinerea). Beautiful birds and patient hunters. :)

We’ve spent the last few days in the Warta River Mouth National Park in western Poland. The Western Yellow Wagtails (Motacilla flava) have been everywhere and love posing. :)

I couldn’t figure out a better way to post this, so hopefully this image is ok.

I think it’s a Long-eared Owl… but yeah. It’s a great experience to see them hunting, gliding, swooping, and diving.

I’ve been lucky enough to get a decent photo of one a few years ago, and was hoping to repeat that this year. They only seem to visit for a short period, from May to early July.

Female Common Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs). We’ve been hearing them for a while but it’s a lot harder to get a photo. They don’t seem to care for our feeder for whatever reason. #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

Photographing birds is often an exercise in patience. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I remind myself that I am not taking photos for National Geographic but for myself, and it is a pleasure to see them out there, flying freely. #birds #birding #birdwatching

A couple of photos of a Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) taken yesterday evening with my Nikon P950 at ~1800 mm. #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

A decent photo of a Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina) perched on our fence. Taken about 20 minutes ago. It’s a beaut of an evening. :) #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus). They have a small nest nearby so they’ve been visiting the feeder more often. #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

I love seeing the local Eurasian Jay (Garrulus Ladarius) visiting our garden’s mini pond; they always have pretty elaborate baths. :). #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

A female Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). While we see male pheasants almost every day around our garden and sometimes in it, it’s more unusual to see the females and quite unusual to see them on our side of the fence. #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

We’ve just started hearing and seeing some Corn Buntings (Emberiza calandra). This is the 30th species of bird we’ve identified at (or over) our house. #birds #birding #birdwatching #krakow

We seem to have a pair of European Goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis) visiting our feeder regularly now and I managed to also get a few shots of one in our nearby birch tree. #birds #birdwatching #krakow

A Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula) I spotted while visiting family near Krakow over the weekend. #birds #birdwatching

Our newly created mini-pond is starting to see some visitors. Today I’ve seen a Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina), a Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros), and an Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius). #birds #birdwatching

One of our local Common Pheasants figured out how to get to the bird feeder. I have it filled with a homemade mix of unsalted chopped peanuts, sunflower seeds, and unshelled black sunflower seeds. Shot with a Nikon P950, 400 mm, at around 11:15 am on Jan 8th. #Krakow #poland #birds #birding

#birds #Krakow #pheasants … In the last month or so we’ve been seeing the pheasants almost daily. I love watching them waking up and down the fence line, gliding over the fields, and calling loudly to each other. :)

This is one I photo’d in June when it visited our garden.

#BirdWatching in #Krakow post. We have one or more Eurasian Sparrowhawks that have been going after our local Blue Tits and Great Tits who like to rest in our Himalayan Birch.

Everybody has to eat, but I’m not rooting for anyone here because I like all our feathered buddies.
