The Paper (1994)
Dir: Ron Howard

I think that this is the only time Keaton and Howard did a movie together aside from 1983's Night Shift and damn if the energy isn't great right from the start.

I've been rereading The Running Man; came across this bit tonight and it's got me thinking about something I saw recently discussing how white-collar financial crimes are inherently violent because of their impact on the lower classes.

Knowing how the story plays out really highlights this passage.

Brief Encounter (1945)
Dir: David Lean

Just because one of my colleagues raved about the closing minutes of it and I got curious.

This tracks as the kind of garbage take you'd get from someone who also posts this misogynistic horseshit.

#LastFourWatched

Four very different kinds of thrillers here, all of them good, three of them great (only because slashers don't do it for me, sorry Halloween). Apollo 13 remains great competence porn, and Pelham is SO awesome.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
Dir: Joseph Sargent

The opening of this movie is my gold standard for efficiently setting up a story. It wastes no time getting the guys on that train.

Tonight's movie is a return to an old favorite...

Apollo 13 (1995)
Dir: Ron Howard

I will always be amazed by what we accomplished with space exploration, and especially the problem-solving involved. This illustrates a lot of that.

These games played so fast and loose with what actually happened and yet are so ingrained in my memory because I played them alongside seeing the movies for the first time so it's impossible for me to accept that some of this is not actually canon.

The Jawas definitely have this in the sandcrawler.

In the history of Hooptober this is the first film required by name.

Dir: Victor Fleming

Ghostwatch (1992)

I'm really interested in how this plays out, especially as an early version of modern analog horror.

I'm overdue for a watch of this one since the short story was so good and I've heard nothing but awesome things about it.
