Of course. I mighta flunked out of my first go at college anyway. Definitely didn't have the discipline for it.

Still, if I'd been able to articulate then how much I enjoy doing the research, following information, then putting it all together in writing, who knows what I could've wound up doing?

20 years ago I went to college and aimed at a journalism degree. My advisor basically told me I shouldn't because I explained my reasons for it poorly, being an 18-year-old idiot. This makes me wonder where I might've gone if I hadn't been persuaded to change majors.

THATS why it looked familiar-but-not-quite! Sidereal Confluence is one hell of a fun game of wheeling and dealing and its shockingly balanced for how different everything is. I'm jealous that you're playing with a designer for it!

And Lynne Thigpen? HELL yes.

Bonus points for Randy Quaid as a conspiracy theorists nut job, which may or may not be a performance.

Marisa Tomei is wonderful. This is very much a Randy Newman score. And that joke of a story he gives when walking into the newsroom- we'd all be better off, wouldn't we?

@theonetruejames.bsky.social told me about this one, so here I am...

The Paper (1994)
Dir: Ron Howard

I think that this is the only time Keaton and Howard did a movie together aside from 1983's Night Shift and damn if the energy isn't great right from the start.

People in movies from 20+ years ago who are my age now have full-on "quit job, change successful career, maybe find a new partner" midlife crises and I'm only just starting to make my way out of the service industry I've been in since some of that shit came out.

Definitely picking up DECOY next time I hit up the video store since there's only physical copies apparently?

It's currently on Criterion, Prime, Kanopy, and Tubi- plus others and available to rent!
