The randomness of the fixture year to year is the issue in my view. Make it less random. There is no way to make it completely fair with 23 games and 18 teams but at least there is some structure

I randomly think we will be better this year than we were last year, not by much, I still think talent wins out in the afl, but I think we will see a cohesive unit with far more upside.

Make the south division travel more during the first allotment of games, for example Essendon has to play 8 clubs outside of Melbourne in the first allotment, make 6-7 of them interstate games.

Or another solution, just group teams into 6 geographic locations. Eastern, southern, western.
East - lions, suns, giants, swans, hawks, tigers.
West - freo, eagles, crows, port, Geelong, bulldogs
South - Coll, Carl, Ess, saints, north, dees

Which leaves 1 game each, which are reserved for interstate clashes, rivalry round. Carl v Collingwood, Geelong v hawks, etc.

He should also buy a lottery ticket. To sprain your acl without tearing it I imagine is quite rare. Coming from someone who has torn their acl 3 times
