This is so spot on I just had to share. People who cheer the dismantling of DEI initiatives fail to see that promoting equity and inclusion benefits them too. They are too blinded by wanting to erase groups of people that they dislike.

Here is how I ended up structuring my ethics of public health syllabus. We’re doing two full weeks on vaccine ethics and then another week on pandemics. Very grateful to the librarians who were able to get us digital access to The Oxford Handbook of Public Health Ethics. @profgoldberg.bsky.social

Some honest thoughts - a lot of focus on UCLA students rightfully so, but for many students thinking across the UCs and CSUs that are away from home.

Coming back to campus or having to have evacuated before they head back to campus and forced to because of $.

It’s never a good sign when I have an opportunity to post this exceptional public health graphic.

For those living outside of endemic regions, malaria as a real and present threat seems far fetched. The undiagnosed mystery illness in Panzi, DRC appears to be Malaria compounded by social determinants of health. An outbreak fueled by poverty and lack of HC access.

I often saw that egg prices were the marker of inflation… which ignored the on-going impacts of H5N1. Same time, lawsuits revealed past practices of companies conspiring to fix the price of eggs.

The exact circumstances of what we are looking at in this CA case are unclear at the moment.

But what is the acceptable tail risk of all the bad scenarios? What is our Situational Awareness and mobilized strategy to mitigate them?

A somber note, I talked to a station agent about the increases in train-strikes for Capitol Corridor.

They said, around this time of year, we starting seeing more 🥲 the other week that I really remember was this year’s heat wave when both Amtrak and BART had 2 train strikes, respectively.

Also important to note that Bhattacharya, Cody Meissner, and other signatories to this declaration, were NOT front-line COVID providers. They had no idea how bad things were. They could sit at their desks and opine while those of us who were actually caring for kids and adults slowly burnt out.
