And the turn of events in my life has me at my desk, toiling away with this good work that we call research. But science has significance because it's with good people we have to work together, and it's people's lives we work to help improve and save. We should never forget this. (3/3)

Today, I pause work to consider my first undergrad research assistant from years ago, who never failed to make a joke or some quirky observation about our work to lift up the day just a little bit. The sudden turn of life events has him counting his last days. (2/3)
