Today I learned that T8's quick ki charge counter hits can still be done in training mode. Hold touchpad / view button to apply a counter hit state to the training dummy without setting it in the menu every time. 👍

Tales remasters can't seem to escape audio balancing issues, though that's usually for newly recorded lines...

I heard that the stick sensitivity is also a problem. I would guess that applies to both left stick movement and shortcut artes?

When the camera works, it works. But the game's insistence on incorporating nearby world geometry and props really has it out for the camera. It's ambitious to use overworld as the canvas for restricted battle areas, but I understand why this wouldn't be iterated on in the future.

I said this game has a stronger 2-player focus, but that's mostly because of armatization; It's uniform for both players, and doesn't lock players out of metered mechanics even if they don't use it. It iterates on Xillias' link system, which tied party members to a player to fill an overlimit gauge.

The one thing that arguably makes most players' experience worse in combat is the camera though. It only follows player 1's target and is only concerned with keeping that in frame. Battle areas also aren't separated from overworld / dungeons, which causes blinding, claustrophobic views like this:

With proper knowledge, the combat flows rather well! Use armatization, but don't stay in it for too long. Use meter to buy damage and get openings. Quickstep in the right direction to fill meter quickly. Artes with built-in movement can be used for evasion (see Rose's Dream Slasher in this clip).

It turns out that co-op benefits greatly from having one armatized player (character fusion) and another player supporting with attribute weaknesses and spells. Damage output starts low, but grows exponentially during stuns and attribute weakness combos. Gear skill that raised stun damage was peak.

Now I find it easier to appreciate what Zestiria offers; A stronger focus on 2-player co-op with character fusions, attack RPS & Graces' quicksteps encouraging better understanding of enemies, run variance via equipment drops a'la modern Team Ninja, and its sense of humor resonated with me.

I recently played through Tales of Zestiria in co-op. Possibly the most fun I've had in Tales co-op yet, but more importantly, it was a chance to revisit the game with a fresh mindset and mend old wounds.

The very idea of playing this game felt revolting for so many years. Not anymore though. 🧵

Atelier Resleriana Red & White got free legacy music DLC recently. 🎶

Music from 30 games (Marie up to Ryza 2), comes with presets per game and you can set at least 10 songs to a music category.

I had the bright idea of playing original Atelier Marie (left) and Atelier Marie Plus (right, Remake DLC) side by side to note any changes, and I got hit by run variance within 5 minutes of play... Dio's daughter Flea only handles job requests, and not rumors

Same! Red & White's season pass promises a post-game DLC dungeon with an enticing name, so I'm definitely keeping an eye on that. 👀
