Read what’s happening with the Coast Guard and hate symbols, then read this article about Florida whitewashing McCarthyism and changing how schools can teach about it. People’s lives and livelihoods were destroyed for decades, but, sure. Let’s protect the feelings of fascists and hate groups today.
Lee Grant, blacklisted during McCarthyism, is speaking out against Florida's teaching standards
At 100 years old, Lee Grant knows the cost of McCarthyism better than almost anyone else on the planet.

Are you in #Georgia? Have you voted? If not, tomorrow is your last chance to make a difference in the #PSC #election. There are also a number of local ballot measures, city council elections, etc. that need your voice!

If you are one of the almost 100 Dems who voted to honor the guy who said the Civil Rights Act was a huge mistake,

don’t bother asking Black people to vote for you, donate to you or canvass for you next year.

Don’t bother.

Please.

And don’t be shocked if you get a primary opponent.

With apologies to Carl Sandberg:

on little blonde feet.

It sits looking
over city council meetings
on snooty haunches
looking down its nose but never moves on.

Last night I watched Anatomy of a Murde and was drawn in by Joseph Welch, who once was an attorney. He was famous for skewering Joseph McCarthy: “Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness…You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?"

It’s so much more granular than states.
Abolish red state-blue state labels
They're designed to cause division, and are the direct byproduct of the broken electoral college

Please take a look at the website and also what they stand for. There are 3 businesses listed in my tiny town.
Public Square Website
It's nice of them to make a list of places for us to avoid.

This is not a drill! Check my comments if you’re in Georgia and want to know how these funds are used. This will be the death knell for rural libraries, especially for high speed internet and interlibrary loan (HUGE in Georgia’s PINES system).
🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Any recommendations for online shops for home health/personal care products? I’m in a rural area, so Walmart and Amazon have been my few sources for bulk shopping, but they’re not getting my money if I can help it. Have you found a company you like? I need to stock up for my mom.

I feel like we’re losing battles because of focusing on purity tests. There are so many ways we in the U.S. must improve, but right now, accusing each other of not being liberal enough, of spending our few pennies on the wrong groceries, and similar is distracting from fighting the actual war.
