"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

Just came across this titanic change (in the first photo of the thread) while preparing a handout for students on proper citations. Kind of shocking, but I'll accept it eventually.
The long-awaited news from the Chicago Manual of Style: Place of publication will no longer be used in citations as of the 18th edition (with rare exceptions for clarity).

This small, fold-out, parchment #almanac for the wealthier late #medieval Scandinavian peasantry, made in 1513, is a perennial joy.

It's tiny - just 5x5 cm folded, unrolling (rather like a Jacob's ladder toy) to 5x63 cm, & holds so much information...

How's that AI-driven translation and image-classification working out for everyone these days? Cool, Cool.

(*For those who need an explanation: the technical term for this form of facade sculpture is "tympanum," which is close enough to the scientific term for eardrum, that this happened).
