The second is that work is only meaningful in what it makes possible, namely leisure. Under the current system we don’t work for the survival or flourishing of ourselves and our neighbors, we work for capital. This strips both leisure and labor of their proper significance.

You think you are happy? That your life is going well? Have you considered looking at the cup half empty? It’s the pretense at objectivity that I found truly interesting. Maybe the actual book has makes a better case than what I heard on the podcast but what I heard was unimpressive.

that if you were to add up negative experiences the sum of them would surpass positive ones. This was both confusing and unsettling. Confused because how do you objectively measure units of happiness? Unsettling because rather than being an argument it just seems to me to be an invitation to misery.
