if Trump and his cronies are able to veto appropriations made by Congress, then we've already moved into a dictatorial system of government. Why would Democrats waste time negotiating spending deals if Trump can just rip them up after he signs them?

Imagine you're a Republican.

You control the House, Senate & White House.

You spent 9 weeks sucking up to Elon Musk and gutting vital programs. Your "mandate," you said.

You draft a budget alone, without Democrats. Everyone hates it. Your own party can't pass it.

And now it's Democrats' fault? 🤡

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.”

University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

RFK Jr has entered the room for his second Senate confirmation hearing.

Sen. Bill Cassidy, the GOP chair of this committee and a potential swing vote, just said it’s “no secret” that he has “some reservations” about Kennedy.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.
