I would be willing to bet a significant contributor is a legal system that continues to incarcerate women for defending themselves against abuse, alongside a rise in IPV, particularly during the pandemic
Women’s incarceration has grown at 2x the pace of men’s incarceration in recent decades.

Why? Frustratingly, the data needed to explain do not exist yet.

Women can’t get left behind in the effort to end mass incarceration.
