3. Pancake Editing 🥞
Make a sequence just for watching the footage, make selects and create markers for notes and ideas. Place this timeline on top of your main "Edit" one.
Time off the timeline panel slows you. Reduce that time by moving assets from one timeline to the other.

2. FPS Editing mode 👾 🔫
Your keyboard hand should barely change places. Almost all functions you need can be mapped to the keys your fingers can press. You can also map shortcuts to your mouse.
One hand on the keyboard, the other one on the mouse. At all times.

1. Implement the 3-phase Edit plan 📝
Break down your project in 3 phases.
1.a. Assembly: Create a "skelleton cut"
1.b. Edit: Fine tune the edit, work on storytelling.
1.c. Polish: All the bells and whistles. Get creative and have fun.
First two should take 1/3 of your time.

6. Learn how to mix properly.
Watch videos on this, @premiere_gal has an amazing tutorial for this purpose.
You can drain your whole time budget (and sanity) by individually adjusting every clip.
Use your speakers, it will show you what most people will hear.

5. Ask questions.
Wanna know how to avoid a million feedback cycles? Ask questions and confirm with your clients and/or producers to align on what you all want.

Useful Qs:
.How does this video serve our audience?
.What makes this video important to them?
.Any references for inspo?

4. Be kind to your producers.
They deal with an insane amount of problems and crises, all the time, all at once and probably have barely slept. Understand their occasional dryness or dismissiveness as a cry for help. Value their time, give them grace. They'll notice.

3. Pick your battles.
Clients, producers, directors, will sometimes disagree with you. Sometimes they will be wrong. Give enough grace to be taken seriously when you pick an important decision to push back on. Argue for the video tho, not your ego (people can tell)

2. The most boring things about your job are also the ones that will give you the most peace.
Be clean, be organized, label and categorize meticulously. You MUST be able to almost instantly find any asset you need, and avoid giving migraines to anyone accessing your folder.

1. That exciting and innovative idea you just had for a beat of the video could be great, yes, but in order to explore it you should:
a) Already have a complete and fully presentable version of the video. Obligations above cravings.
and...
b)It serves the video more than your ego

The first three are paid tools, but if you have the chance, I very much encourage you to get them. I am biased as a massve @knightsediting fan, but my bias comes from having my life made a lot easier. Ultimately tools are just tools. Don't need them, but oh boy do I love em.
