He is mostly not a clever dog! But he is very good at learning what stuff we say to him regularly means, even if the words are not always in the same order, even if we are not actually trying to teach him anything

bro Apple sells the most popular technological device in history for a thousand bucks every year and they're pulling in around 400 billion

Amazon is responsible for like half of all commerce and makes 600 billion

in what kind of timespan is OpenAI supposed to make 1.5 trillion? the 21st century?

but that car is DEAD

and very much died WHILE I was actively driving it down a fairly major road; providentially was in the rightmost lane and was able to coast into a parking lot and then into a real parking spot

it's not that the phrase isn't true. and if it's being used to try to get true and political statements about the gospel heard by people who will resist if they think it's "partisan," I'm fine with that as far as it goes. but it can't be a carving-out of whatever politics becomes polarized by party
November 10, 2025 at 3:15 PM
if "the gospel is political but not partisan" becomes shorthand for "don't you dare imply that God has ever taken a side or categorically condemned anything that was popular," we are not talking about the gospel of jesus christ at all anymore

yes, I think I agree. though there are other incompatibilities - political, desire-for-children - that are generally recognized as a Real Problem that Should Be Addressed, even in love, and I think it's worth recognizing that for *some* people, religious mismatch can be on that level, depending
November 10, 2025 at 3:08 PM
(I also think sometimes - this is in general, not projecting onto OP - there is this assumption that religiosity is only "healthy" and in-bounds socially when it never becomes the determining factor in anything, is never of overriding importance. which I, uh, would say I disagree with)
November 10, 2025 at 3:05 PM
also I think there is perhaps some conflation happening of "opposed to interfaith relationships in principle" and "has religious compatibility ranked very high as a personal need in a life partner"
November 10, 2025 at 3:03 PM
yeah I've now read more of the thread, and its interesting - it seems to assume that magnitude won't/shouldn't matter if you have fallen in love. which seems a different question than that of what conditions of possibility shape *whether* someone will fall in love
November 10, 2025 at 3:02 PM
(indeed, it seems like OP would have a very hard time with someone whose religiosity differed significantly from OP's own in magnitude!)
November 10, 2025 at 2:58 PM
yeah uh, I think it is pretty self-evident that bailey and I would never have happened if we didn't share not only direction but magnitude, as it were, in re: religion. the idea that dietary prefs are a thing indifferent is a Very Particular Position; so is equating religion with steak

it isn't letting your guard down to release a held breath. this particular moment has passed without disaster. which means more time to prepare for whatever fight is coming; more time to put "wise as serpents and gentle as doves" into practice

the day after the election we ordered multiple additional copies of our marriage certificate. if your legal marriage would be imperiled by obergefell being overturned, I commend having multiple copies to you. have a will, and a living will, and a power of attorney
