Writer of (mostly) short fiction. SFWA. BSFA award longlisted. Cat Dad.
Not content with stealing my work to train its AI, Meta's AI has now randomly suspended my 15 year old Facebook account for unclear/nonsensical reasons, with the appeal process seemingly also left to AI.
This is frustrating and depressing for a number of reasons... (continued)

Happy to announce that I've had a story translated into another language for the first time.
'Frank Peterson Comes Home' first published by @shoreinf.bsky.social can be found in the German anthology 'Ihr Körper, das Schiff: Die besten internationalen Science-Fiction-Geschichten' by A7L Books.

Encouraging news regarding the unauthorised theft of our work.

Kitten update: Momo tested negative for FiV and is now approved to mingle with the other cats. He has selected the science fiction section of the bookshelf as his favourite place with a preference for Zamyatin and Philip K Dick among others. I am a proud father.

Abandoned kitten update. Back from the vets. Dewormed and ear mites dealt with. FIV test will be next week. He's a happy little guy.

Found this little guy abandoned in a supermarket carpark this morning. 😭 He's safe in my garden now at least. I'll take him to the vet tomorrow.

Good morning, Mr. Manuscript! After doing the requisite spell of ignoring it, post completion, today begins the task of examining it with fresh eyes in printed form, with a pencil, a highlighter and probably the first of several caffeinated drinks.

Picked up some Latvian Space Disco this morning at the local market. This afternoon's task is seeing how many words I can trim from a near 8000 word story since nobody seems to want tales of this length anymore.

Interesting bubble library I came across while out hiking yesterday. I didn't see The Librarian but I wouldn't have been surprised. 📚

I've been lucky, this year, to have the support of my partner while I took a sabbatical to craft some promising short stories into something larger.
Both the card and the models were a gift from her on the novel's completion. Both birds are important symbols within the #book.

Finished up another chapter today after a solid week of working on it. Each one seems to take longer as I near the end of this novel and I think part of that is my reluctance to say goodbye to characters I've spent the best part of a year with.

Writing is going well this week. Mapping out the last few chapters has really helped me focus. 75000 words in now with approximately 6-7 chapters left to go before the first draft of my year's big project is complete.

I'm also looking forward to delving into this @aanpress.bsky.social anthology of Tempest inspired tales from @singingtotigers.bsky.social , @culttvmike.bsky.social and many other familiar names. Beautiful art cards are a bonus typical of this press and its creative output!

My author copy of 'Our Dust Earth' the hybrid anthology/TTRPG from @aanpress.bsky.social has arrived and I'm also really happy to read that Todd has defeated his personal 🐉
Now all we need is Satchel-Con! 😄

The willow leaves are falling and I'm back to the main task this month with novel that is definately now a novel and its tricky final third that seemingly wants me to do anything but finish it.

Finished a new short story this morning and successfully (and surprisingly) managed to chop 800 or so words from it to make word count. Hopefully its tighter and better for it.
