This is called "diplomacy" — talking with your friends & your enemies, recognizing that both sides have legitimate strategic interests, seeing what's possible, acting in the best interests of your respective countries rather than demonizing each other. It used to be a normal part of civilization.

So what? If the original were Russian or Latin or Klingon would it matter to, for example:
20a. Ukraine will adopt EU rules on religious tolerance and the protection of linguistic minorities;

It's simply justice: 38% of Ukrainians are Russian speaking. They are a supermajority in the Donbas. Apartheid Ukraine is denying them language, religious, political, and cultural rights. Why on earth would they want to return to Ukrainian rule? America's revolutionary war was fought for much less.
