My pet peeve (in support of your point) - the saying is that one bad apple *spoils the barrel*. Sort the barrel out, or we are stuck doing this again and again...

It also fundamentally misunderstands that the point of the saying is that one bad apple *spoils the barrel*.

I approve of this course of inaction.

Don't UoO fork out for a subscription? My intermitent VUW acct is the only way I get to hate read premium articles (and no, I'm not even bothering with this one...)

Its the whole law school (and few students in it would have any grasp of this history surrounding them every day tbh). The old plans are fascinating to see who would have been in which room when making these historical decisions.

Aw yay, thank you! This little episode illustrates why I admire your mahi so much! Just get stuck in and do it for the better of all of us - you are a legend xx

Yes - the link you've provided says it's also funded for persons recommended by a medical officer of health. My understanding is that those who've not received the second dose in the 1969-1990 period fall in that category. I did and it was free.

It is also funded for those who do not have two documented measles vaccines - you don't have to be eligible for free healthcare (scroll down to funded vaccines: www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/for-health-p...)

I think nzlii (NZ legal information institute) might also be interested in this? They're on bsky @nzlii.bsky.social but an email to them might be a good idea too (nzlii(at)otago.ac.nz).

A tiny window into institutional hatred. Such incredible reporting, and I'm glad it's got this sliver of harsh sunlight. So much more needed - here, there and everywhere.

I initially thought this was going to be organised by the size categories of birdle 😂

And to top it all off, it was a political accident - Seddon wanted to see the back of the issue, thought he had the numbers to defeat it if he introduced it, but his gamble did not pay off. Argh I hate everything about this particular mythologising argh argh argh.

Even the predicate isn't true! We were a colony, not a sovereign state. Similar territories were ahead of us eg Wyoming 1869, Utah 1870. The 1st sovereign state may have been Hawai'i (gender neutral term in 1840 constitution, changed afterwards). Pitcairn was in 1838 and kept it ever since.

Ooooh, I confess I'm horribly ignorant and had to check which quote source you were refering to... No I haven't - but I'm now very keen to now!

Relevant to this kōrero, perhaps (see the post quoted by KW as well, which really resonates!)

Another artist told me once to go see the full-size Muchas because you can see all the errors. I did and damned if she wasn’t right. It was a weird relief.
Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.

Aroha mai - we were a colony, not a dominion...

Untrue! We werent a sovereign state, only a dominion. Many other similar territories were earlier, eg Wyoming (1869) and Utah (1870). The first sovereign state may have been Hawai'i (gender neutral term used in 1840 constitution but changed soon after). Pitcairn was in 1838 and kept it ever since.
