I stopped reporting my #1000WordsofSummer daily tallies because my word count slowed down... BECAUSE I FINISHED MY LATEST NOVEL DRAFT. Please clap. Thank you.

Now, I need to begin 1000 days of revision but one step at a time. :)

1,167 words today and finally hitting a groove. I think I might just finish this (15th? 20th? who knows) draft of this novel before #1000WordsofSummer is over. @jamiattenberg.bsky.social must be the godmother of so many books!

Back to the novel manuscript for #1000WordsofSummer today and eked out 1,006 words, again at the end of a busy work day. Susan Choi's letter today was a corker. It's a banner year for contributors, and we're only on Day 4. Can't wait to see who else @jamiattenberg.bsky.social has in store for us.

Karen Russell is one of the most unique voices and humans I've ever encountered. Was thrilled to see her cheering us all on for Day 2 of #1000WordsofSummer. Helped me get 1,184 words down, and may just inspire me to keep going beyond that today.

Just as I was thinking of resubscribing to the Miami Herald, I see this... The state of journalism is so demoralizing.

Maybe they should start with, I dunno, not letting woman die or experience horrific trauma when they're pregnant or having pregnancy complications?

I love most craft essays, but this one by @mbucknor.bsky.social in @literaryhub.bsky.social—”on the Literary Power of the Accusatory Moment” is so helpful for writers who struggles with writing conflict. Building on some excellent advice from the great Charles Baxter.

Re-entering a novel draft after almost three months away from it (to work on another book) is both clarifying and daunting. Back in the revision trenches!

Watching a publishing panel Zoom and the closed captions translated “literary agent” to “litter agent.” Not sure what that says about the work of their authors... 😂

State of Paradise: a fantastic book by @lauravandenberg.bsky.social — and an accurate description of downtown Miami during this weekend’s Miami Book Fair. Still on a high.

Coordinating my Miami Book Fair schedule (always a tight squeeze). Just did a search for a bunch of the authors I plan on seeing talk this weekend but not many of them are on Bluesky (yet?). I did find

and

here though.
