He/him. Wood carving, burning and turning. Still learning, excited to share the process.

Having some setbacks, actually having some leg surgery soon. Good news is I found Michel Lauricella at the local library.

Been peeling out of hibernation mode. Toned paper has been nice for practicing my shapes and lines, when my woodburning practice has left me a little disappointed.
Here's a quick yard sketch I'm very pleased with and a cross-eyed owl... I'm sure my grandmother will love.

Do I feel guilty essentially making "practice pieces" out of gifts for grandparents to work on a technique? Kind of. But at the same time, I know they'll love it more than anything store bought.

Again, my favorite part of doing stuff with wood is jumping from project to project with wild abandon. Worked on all of these tonight.

Saw someone on here philosophizing about what it means to be an artist and struggling with that. Simple solution: just go out and make art. Don't overthink it.

Driving through and decided to see America's greatest prognosticating rodent. I assumed there was just a lineage of Phil's but the official lore is much more baffling and includes a magic elixir.

Absolutely ridiculous

Jesus Christ. Reorganizing the barn and didn't recognize this big plug on my surge protector. Could've killed everything in my dad's greenhouse

Kind of abandoned it but after Jimmy Buffet died for a while I was working adding a major star every time one passed to a Great Margaritaville in the Sky

Picked up Woodcarving magazine (UK issue 202) today because it was on a shelf and love this quote on a project by Peter Benson

Getting some sealant going on these green pieces until I've determined which are worth keeping and what my plan is for remaining pieces

Spalting is a process where wood starts to rot and change in color. It also makes beautiful bowls.

Can't wait to work with these pieces. Last pic is a spalted bowl.

Oh yeah we got wood

Glad I grabbed the good masks before starting to mess with this because I just know it's fungus city in there and plain sawdust alone has me bad enough off wheezing
November 23, 2024 at 3:30 AM
Ohhh I can see it
November 23, 2024 at 3:03 AM
Another thing I love to do is go places and make sketches.

Doing a little find a grave and just pulled some creepy ivy off this guy. Didn't get so much as a thank you.

Found some twine and was so excited and spent hours making a scratching post with scrap wood that Henry, even with goading, will not even touch

If a tree falls in a field, I get really excited and start scavenging

He wants to create art but he does not know how

Walnut block and goblet I made out of the same stock from Woodcraft of Louisville. Still going to sand the base a bit. #woodwork #woodcraft #louisville #woodturning #turning #art
