Excellent piece, worthy of a Pulitzer in commentary. One issue: a state is not militarily strong if it depends on another state to supply it weapons. U.S. and China are strong miliatrily b/c they produce their own weapons; Isreal, not so much. How strong is Israel if U.S. wihtholds weapons?

Excellent piece, worthy of a Pulitzer in commentary. One issue: a state is not militarily strong if it depends on another state to supply it weapons. U.S. and China are strong miliatrily b/c they produce their own weapons; Isreal, not so much. How strong is Israel if U.S. wihtholds weapons?

Correction: They're not secret, and we've already reached destination authoritarianism. I once heard a chess player say to an opponent, "You're already done; you just don't know it yet." Regarding the current state of affairs, we're already living under an authoritarian regime; we just know it yet.
The fact we have secret police whisking people off the streets doesn’t get enough attention. It ain’t normal and we’re further down the road to authoritarianism than you think.
