Midwestern 30-something wife and mom. Recently left my corporate career to follow my dream of opening a bookstore. Reading and resisting my way through 2025. Make racism bad again.
In "A Tale of Two Cities" a nobleman accidentally kills a child with his carriage. He shows no remorse, callously tosses a coin at the grieving father to compensate him, and rides on.

That kind of callousness is what we see in #MAGA leaders. And that situation ended in bloody revolution. #booksky

No Kings rally in Bloomington, Illinois. My mom went with me. This is a purple county in a sea of red. This protest turnout was much larger than I have ever seen around here. The crowd was much younger, too. Usually our protesters are mainly retired. It was very encouraging. #nokings #nokingsrally

The Antidote by Karen Russell is a historical novel, but also a novel of our times. It’s about hope, history, and the agency that each person has to stand up against evil. I highly recommend this one. #booksky

I made it out to a #mayday protest in Bloomington Illinois. 🪧 🇺🇸 there was a very nice crowd and a lot of cheers from people driving past.

I read 8 books in April. The best book I read this month was Black Woods Blue Sky, but it was also sort of messed up. Deeply disturbing in a way. So if you can handle that, I definitely recommend it. Barbara Kingsolver - level prose.
