So humbled to have been chosen as a mentee and can't wait to breath life into my little witchy story.
It's #HiveMentor announcement o'clock! I'm SO thrilled to be mentoring two brilliant writers this year. I am absolutely buzzing to be working with both of them on these brilliant books. They're going to knock your socks off, y'all. Make room on your bookshelves! ♥️

I will no longer be able to pursue my dream as an author because all my free time is currently being put towards plucking all the peri-menopause hairs on my chin.

One day someone will write a book called something like "Sour Dough Starts and the Downfall of Democracy: Memes as a Form of Resistance" and the primary sources will simply include the random things we all share on social media.

I've been here for a minute, but I'm all in now. So here's a bit about me:

Middle School Teacher
Historian
Writer (mostly historical fantasy!)
Currently querying
Sort of obsessed with postcards

I'd love some new friends!

This week my 6th graders have been researching Mesopotamian inventions. Tomorrow, the project will culminate in a debate in which one invention will reign supreme! Which one would you choose?

Wheel
Irrigation
Sailboat

Social media is a great means of communication in a digital world, however it's clear it lends to polarizing opinions.

For example, a big fight right now in the #writngcommunity is trad pubvs. self pub

There are pros and cons to both. One is not inherently superior. Stop fighting and just write.

It is during the drafting stage that I find I can neither spell nor grammar.

Writers who are also teachers (or health professionals).

How do you find the energy to write/edit on the weekends? I find that because of the nature of my job I'm in an emotional and creative spiral all week. When I finally write...I go blank.

Tips/Tricks?

If you ever need world building ideas for your stories, might I suggest you talk with a 6th grader? They are some of the most creative humans I know.

You might just also have to listen to stories about pokemon.

I've hit the stage of procrastination where I'm now writing Loki fan-fic.

It's lit y'all.

I teach 6th grade ancient history, and I assigned my students a “create a civilization” project based on the GRAPES of civilization.

Low key using it to world build for my WIP.

Advice in writing is to write until your MS is *perfection*. Until it's been *pulled apart by betas*. It has to be *fresh* it has to be *new*.

but then I read a published novel and it's arguably an author who said eff this and wrote what they wanted. I've entered my eff it era.

In light of recent events I want to take a sec to discuss lateral reading. This is a method used by fact checkers to independently verify sources.

Social media is ripe with propaganda. *Leave the Site* and fact check with trustworthy sources before you believe things.

Thank you for the ted talk.

While working on my WIP I realized some specific facets will need to change to make the story better. This is normal to figure out in discovery, but daunting considering I'm 40,000 words in.

I have three competing ideas floating around in my brain, so help me out my #writingcommunity. While querying my Adult Historical Fantasy should I work on:

YA historical Fantasy (1920's)
Contemporary Rom Com
Dystopian Romance

I swear, all the agents I vibe with are from the UK.

I guess it's time to move to the UK.

Do you have characters that you return to over and over again? For me, it's a WIP that I've been writing and re-writing for the past 7 years. There's something about these characters and this story that just won't die for me.

Working on it *again* and rewriting from the ground up. #writing

As an adult with ADHD, the biggest hurdle I've had to overcome with my writing is learning patience.

Things take a LONG time. Drafting, writing, re-writing, querying, waiting. And I'm still in the trenches. For anyone it's soul sucking, but for me it's crushing.

Managed to get almost a full chapter (badly) written yesterday. Which, considering teaching and kids and other obligations, counts as a good day.

A big goal I had in 2023 was to network with other writers and maybe even find myself some CP's. It's nearly October, but I just got accepted into a workshop that should help me do both of those things!

Also this app is helping on the networking front!

I never thought I'd be the kind of gal who woke up early to get writing in, but every day for 2 months I've managed to get about 30 minutes worth of writing done in the time before I leave for work.

Bit by bit, chunk by chunk.

So far blue sky feels a TON like early twitter. You find people with similar interests, you interact and network, and it's all pleasant. I suspect it's because there are fewer users, but I sure do like it here.

I take a lot of inspiration from Broadway. While I love a good TV show, I would love to be able to write music and songs that would translate to the stage.
#LateNightWrite What other mediums other than written works have you taken inspiration from? If you could adapt your current work to any other medium, which would you choose?
