MSchulz Cartoons
@mschulzcartoons.bsky.social
Single-panel cartoon from a multi-channel buffoon.
PS, if you’re just here for the cartoons and wondering why I’m suddenly ranting about a nearly 200-year-old business law — surprise! I also moonlight as a tech nerd starting a small software-development venture. 🤓

Remember back in 2017 when hundreds of psychiatrists and psychologists publicly warned that Donald Trump’s grip on reality was… let’s call it “delicate”?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Agree in prinicple. 🙂 We could fund drug R&D publicly through taxes — that’s a valid model.
But the current U.S. system funds most drug development through shareholders taking on the financial risk.
So the question is which system we want, not whether the cost exists.

It’s not that simple. The average cost of bringing a drug to market is $1.3B to $2.8B. You are only citing the manufacturing cost of a unit. When a company starts with a drug $2B in the red, it needs to make that back + profit to stay in business and, you know, develop the next drug society needs.
