Having then recently learned his mother had painted this rather wonderful picture, I remember thinking Johnson’s claim that he enjoyed painting passengers on to empty wine boxes he’d made in to buses might just be a rare frank & honest response. “If only he’d made his hobby his career” I wished.

A cross party commitment to make life’s admin easier for trans people, at zero cost to those of us who are cis, generated a manufactured crisis about toilets & now *children* face stigma & segregation. What next, Mums banned from taking toddler sons to a loo with a skirted silhouette? Shameful

You are absolutely right. It’s a pity this didn’t happen, as I’d like to think they’d signpost on to TS - but when the letter comes from a regulated lawyer you can see why recipients might assume it to be unfair but legal, hence the SRA should be all over this & giving prioritising its own case.

Yes, they do a good job but cannot substitute for trained specialist investigators with prosecution powers.

We have laws to deal with such activities, but the impact of austerity leaves them under-used because of deep staff cuts.
A consumer feeling pressured to hand over £25k for something of little value should be able to seek help from their local Trading Standards team.

Yes. I’m reminded of mitigation in a Crown Court case along the lines “not real crime, LA consumer regulations” to which the judge replied “you may say that but the public thinks of it as fraud and so do I”
I think Milne should be investigated by Sheffield TS/CMA for unfair commercial practices

Yes, absolutely.
The increasing reference in HO propaganda to “illegal immigrants” when clearly referring to people who have had no legal assessment of their status whatsoever is just so cold and lacking in basic humanity.

Cary Grant went to the same primary school as Paul Dirac, who really should be in any list of famous Bristolians, so it’s a bit sad that many in the City may not know much about the achievements of Bristol’s own Nobel prize winner, even if they know his name.

Congratulations!

Yes. Where a client instructs they’d prefer no change to current inclusive practice, a lawyer who genuinely believes FWS makes it unlawful should explore such lawful routes to get their client to where they want to be, or as close as. Of course we don’t know what advice was sought or given.

(I realise providing my answer to what would be Anurag’s worst question isn’t the point of this thread but in a time when Councils are forced into selling off prized assets it’s good to see that a plan hatched in the 1860’s, to ensure the public could ever enjoy a huge green space, actually worked)

As a Bristol inhabitant my choice is controversial, being an Act that’s kept The Merchant Venturers in public life. But that troubling reality doesn’t outweigh for me that surely, but for the Act constraining owners, the green lung in the heart of our City would not have survived for our enjoyment
