I went and showed him a whole bunch of things actively being sold on Steam that are INFINITELY more transgressive than anything in Horses and he just went and side-stepped it, refusing to acknowledge anything.

An embarassing man.

This all sounds like criticism, and no, not really. It's a very good game and probably deserving of most of the praise heaped upon it. But almost every part of it feels like any sharp edges have been sanded down for palatability.

It gives it a glossy mirror sheen and palatable, mainstream appeal.

Clair Obscur might be the perfect example of videogame 'Oscar Bait'. Glossy and professionally produced, mostly realistic aesthetics, a familiar genre with a little twist, a Meaningful And Emotional story, and safely within the social mores of western pop culture. No asian 'weirdness' here!

Funny thing is that every Final Fantasy is apparently the worst according to a not-insignificant number of people. It's almost as if the series is, in fact, very varied and each game has its own audience.

Everything I knew about Final Fantasy XVI was telling me I wouldn't like it: no party members, real-time action, and it was being made by the XIV team so it was probably in that "single-player MMO" style. Ended up *completely* thrown by how much I enjoyed the story and characters

I have tell this story many times but: The first time I played The Witcher 3 I absolutely hated it. I thought the combat was messy, the game was too clunky for my taste and I do not like medieval settings.

But after giving the game another shot on a rainy day, the game just clicked for me.

I initially thought this was related to the OG Prey game with the Native American dude blasting aliens in space and wrote it off. Then I booted it up and, almost immediately, was cleansed in the light of Arkane’s Talos I. Unbelievably superb and underrated gem. store.steampowered.com/app/480490/P...

I thought Kunitsu-Gami would just be a quirky time waster, but somehow 3D action tower defence just clicks. Helps that it's absolutely beautiful.
