Would Dallas or any more of the crew in Alien have escaped had he stuck to the original plan of letting Ripley go in the airlock?

The Collingswood Story - 2002

Possibly the first 'found footage' horror using the internet.

There's no way dial-up with this fast and reliable BUT for a really obscure film, the acting isn't too bad at all.

Builds tension and definitely worth a watch.

Aliens: Bishop - I think @trnapper.bsky.social captured the franchise's tone perfectly, nailing the character of Michael Bishop!

If you love Alien 3 but still find some of the decisions hard to deal with (even 30 years on!), then this soothes some old wounds whilst dragging the canon forward.

Near Dark (1987) - a brutal, vampire film that went largely unnoticed, despite Henrikson, Goldstein and Paxton coming fresh off the success of Aliens.

Possibly because of The Lost Boys appealing to the burgeoning MTV generation of the time and Near Dark was all about the upcoming Grunge movement.

Can any horror (Clive Barker) fans recommend this?

Host (2020) - It was filmed (and written?) during the height of the pandemic and it uses those restrictions to maximum effect.

When found footage horror is done right it's so effective and putting the viewer in the middle of the scares.

And this one does it right.

I'm late to this, but it might be the best sci-fi novel I've read for a few years.

Hard sc-fi about first contact, transhumans, religion, identity, AI...it even has a vampire!

Peter Watts doesn't dumb down, it's an elevated experience that sometimes takes a little effort to keep up. Brilliant!

Prospect (2018) - A great example of building a world instead of using expensive CGI to show us one.

The costumes, the look and feel of the tech and the ships, the hints at a wider lore and mythology all add depth to a very simple premise - a western in space.

Primer (2004)

Famously made on a $7000 budget, this is time travel mind bender that relies completely on dialogue and story...and it's an important lesson that great sci-fi does not necessarily need eye-watering budgets!

It'll take a few watches (and maybe have Wikipedia open) but it's worth it.

Alien 3 - such an incredibly beautiful film.

Personally I love it. Hate the beginning part (like nearly everyone else, for the same reasons as everyone else) but that's the point of the film.

Brutal, tragic with a crack of light at the end.
