I heard that Cactus gave Aldi, Lidl, Auchan, and Colruyt three business days to agree to a free-of-charge voluntary merger into Cactus S.A.

His statement resonates well with this well-written article about the Luxembourgish real estate crisis. It is truly sad if Michelin-starred restaurants are not sustainable in a country known as the world's richest.

Article 34 obliges VLOPs to annually assess risks in this respect, while Article 35 requires companies to act upon these risk assessments. However, how they act and what measures they take are subject to a risk-based approach. Therefore, I don't see this move as a clear legal violation per se.

How is this a DSA violation?
January 8, 2025 at 7:56 AM
Surely, yes. They will not ridicule their own laws.
January 8, 2025 at 5:52 AM
There is. Creating an example where one can get on and off the sanctions list makes the whole concept ridiculous. It’s easier to send some clowns to the next CPAC Hungary instead.

Considering the potentially unresolvable demographic risks, the focus on AI and health-tech in general should be redoubled, and local companies like B Medical should be continued and prioritised (www.investinluxembourg.jp/news/the-fut...).

In light of this, the lack of focus on healthcare in the new budget is surprising. The relevant healthcare-related measures, such as the reduction in public insurance coverage for medical laboratory tests, seem to prioritize short-term voter satisfaction over long-term solutions. (5)

Additionally, 65% of doctors in Luxembourg are expected to retire by 2034, and 30% of medical students who train abroad - due to the University of Luxembourg not offering the full scope of medical training - do not return to Luxembourg. (4)

Attracting new workers and retaining the existing workforce is therefore crucial, as the population is growing (over 81% since 1980 and an additional 35% expected by 2050), living longer, increasing in numbers, and developing chronic illnesses. (3)

Hungary also protects individuals under investigation in their home countries. In 2018, former North Macedonian PM Gruevski fled to Hungary and was granted asylum. In 2024, Bolsonaro sought refuge at the Hungarian Embassy in Brasília. Former Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek is now hiding in Budapest. (5)

Protecting this criminally sourced wealth is carried out by the Hungarian administration. Recently, Hungary’s Information Office (IH) targeted investigators at OLAF, which at one point was looking into a Hungarian company owned by Orbán’s son-in-law. (4)
