Anyway, if you were a metal kid during the Satanic Panic, I see you. We survived the tape decks and backwards lyrics and came out with a stronger BS detector.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

My faith means everything to me. But I don’t expect the world to bow to it. Religious freedom must include views that make us uncomfortable, or else it’s not freedom at all.

I believe in the separation of church and state—strongly. (Have you seen what the church did to Ireland?)
Faith should be freely chosen, not state-enforced. That’s how it stays meaningful. That’s how it serves, not controls.

I denounce Satan (and all his empty promises, don’t worry 😉), but I can see the satirical and political value in what The Satanic Temple does. I had to laugh at the Baphomet statue standing next to the 10 Commandments monument.

The irony is not lost on me:
I now teach religion. At a Catholic school.

It’s strange—I didn’t grow up very religious, but I did have faith. I read the Bible as a kid, went to VBS once, sometimes church with my mom or grandparents.
But whatever my teacher was preaching didn’t feel like love. It felt like fear. Mean, unforgiving fear.

That earned me a few weeks learning in the office, banned from class. When parents eventually found out what was happening in our block, the school shut it down. We were told it was "a parent from the other group" who ruined it. (lol, okay.)

One of our actual assignments?
Write all the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven backwards to search for hidden evil messages. (No joke.)
Eventually, I leaned into it and started using a deep “possessed” devil voice to mess with her.

We slowly stopped doing schoolwork. Instead, we listened to her audio cassette recordings of religious TV shows warning about the dangers of Satan, metal, and subliminal messages. I’m talking backwards records, “Sweet Satan” stuff, the full Panic package.

Our school had this “AM/PM block” system—long stretches of class combining history, social studies & language arts. My block teacher was a rare evangelical voice in the liberal PNW, and very concerned about heavy metal music.

I respectfully ask you to ensure that our policies and actions reflect a balanced approach—one that safeguards our nation’s security without compromising the constitutional rights that define us.

Our nation’s strength lies in its commitment to democratic principles, including the protection of diverse viewpoints. Actions perceived as targeting specific groups or suppressing particular perspectives can erode public trust and undermine the foundational values of our democracy.

Your administration has labeled his participation in pro-Palestinian protests as “pro-terrorist, antisemitic, and anti-American.”
While national security and the safety of all citizens are paramount, it’s essential to differentiate between genuine threats and individuals exercising their
