On second listen, my favorite part of the jam is still the same as my first “listen” on the couch last night. This Fishman lead part of the jam is so primordial and cool. My suspicion is that we are getting big jams because Trey’s voice is kakked. I’ll take it.

Not gonna lie. It’s hard to be excited for 🐠 summer tour knowing I won’t be going, not because I don’t want to, but because they are only playing in a country where I run the risk of being rejected at the border or worse for not expressing support for their authoritarian fuck stick of a president 😔

Out for a solo woods walk sans the fam, Weather Report Suite in my ears and herbal communion on this fine 420 Easter Sunday. All family commitments in the books already, the sun is shining and the Leafs start the playoffs tonight. Thought I’d share this contentment.

1) slow start - pretty mellow from the band, crowd was typical Toronto bystander vibes
2) things rarely overheard a jamband show “things really picked up with the Sheryl Crow cover” true though
3) the sound (esp for Jake and Dani) was muddy and low

Very weird not to be racing to grab tickets today. But such is life. My favourite band is playing in a country that is threatening to destabilize the western world, is a Russian pawn, and wants to annex my country. Kinda hard to justify a trip across the border if I have indeed become the enemy. 🇨🇦

I can’t begin to tell you as a history teacher, a news consumer, and a father how much of my day is consumed by concern for the future. This is not hyperbolic, it’s hypernormalization. It’s turning into the kind of anger that only comes from helplessness. But I can’t just turn it off. It’s awful.

Just learning of the death of one of my all time authors, Tom Robbins. He took the path that Vonnegut showed me and poured a pot of mushroom tea over it. He came along in my life where my minds eye was most open and filled it with absurbirty, philosophy, colour and humour. Never be another like him.

Dec/2/99 was a show that was the opening day of a three day birthday heater for me. Great crew, weird vibes with the person that fell night, met a future good friend for the first time, and a crazy night all around. Trey’s tone is so fuckin grimey in the dying days of the millennium. This Gin soars.
