Bay Statah by birth, defiant St. Louisan by choice. Mom to the best kids, wife to the best railroad dude. Sort-of-a-photographer with the basic common sense to stay off railroad tracks and hopes you do, too.
Welp. Jay and Silent Bob just danced past, right behind the cast of Godspell so yeah, totally normal evening over here

Today is @publiceyestl's birthday. To celebrate, he would appreciate both more and less October baseball, hear more quiet, resolute dissent and loud, happy children, see more neighbors chatting while walking well-behaved dogs, cats and parrots, and encounter Tiny Libraries on every corner of #stl.

Losing more sleep over the elderly in the family than I did when the kids were tiny-and teens.

are there any #thirdspaces left in #stl? Especially at night? I know about the various coworking spaces, but I don't need a membership. Just a place to maybe eat, possibly buy a bunch of coffee, and get some busywork done on my laptop. I miss Coffee Cartel!

Happy Birthday @lisaclancy.bsky.social! You are a gem!
Today is @lisadclancy.bsky.social birthday. Her astrological predictions include complicated social dynamics at work, a half-marathon, new boots, an AI to write her newsletter, and an amusing romance. #Gemini

I think Laundromat Owner is my new vocational goal. Maybe with an actual snack and coffee bar, no TVs, happy music & shelves of books. Really good detergent is included, with scents like chocolate chip, lavender, peach crumble & key lime pie. Bonus: people at the laundromat are so interesting.

Eventually the Adams case will trickle down to someone who will just follow orders and dismiss it.

Make that person historically infamous.

(Recall it was Robert Bork who eventually followed Nixon’s order to fire Archibald Cox)
NEWS - As soon as DOJ's Public Integrity Section was informed it would be taking over Mayor Adams case, John Keller, the acting head of the unit and his boss, Kevin Driscoll, the senior most career official in DOJ's criminal division resigned, according to multiple sources.

Danielle Sassoon resigned Thursday as the acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It follows the Justice Department’s directive to drop the case against Mayor Eric Adams.

Ordered four things from ebay last month. They're all still ping-ponging around STL postal facilities. IDK why USPS post office administration is the worst, but somehow it gets even worse every year. Our carriers are ridiculously overworked & nothing gets delivered timely.

Not everyone wants to hear this, but I've seen unexpected & very welcome progress since Pres. Green assumed office. The streets, which still have room for improvement, are better. I see traffic enforcement. And I see open, receptive government where previously there was only shadows & deception.
The Wall Street Journal claims Downtown is in a “doom loop.” But I wouldn’t be so sure.

In this issue of Deep Dive 🤿, I cover exciting projects reshaping Downtown, from historic building renovations to safety improvements.

There are people from two different generations talking loudly at the library near my house. People have been shooting them shut up looks & leaving in frustration & they're oblivious. This has been fascinating-a study in the shredding of social fabric.

I don't want to sound too smug here, but I just put an IKEA cabinet together without swearing even one time.

Friends, I'm still spiraling slightly. Now that I have ordered everything on Amazon, please don't let me buy a truck or get a tattoo. At least not just yet.

But if you see me hauling around six pistachio puddings from Sultan on Manchester? No you didn't

STL friends, if you were behind on everything & needed to spend your entire evening on your laptop but also needed to relax a bit then work tomorrow, where would you spend a couple of days locally? Seven Gables Inn, my usual escape, is full.

Is it normal to walk into a movie theater and find, out of an entire empty theater, that your reserved seats are taken? No? Maybe just an Arnold thing?

Judging by the guests at Fun Job, there were many conversations in Certain Types of Families this week. Kids were absolved of questionable behavior and adults just gave up on the pretense of politeness for society's sake.

this is Wilson. I sneezed one time an hour ago and he has been alternately sneezing, laughing maniacally, and whistling at me to sneeze again. For a full hour.

Parrots are smarter than many people.

(his condo door is open, but he really likes that perch.)

I'm really tired of condescension from City Hall. Yes, I realize you told me a month ago that your "investigation" into the city tree that was reported repeatedly and fell on my house in JULY would take 90 days even after I sent you tons of documentation. I just asked for a damned update. So sorry.
