📚Current read: 1984 by George Orwell
Listening to 1984 by George Orwell while watching TikTok go dark and having to watch Trump and his pals lay the groundwork to get rich off of this bullshit and launch a new wave of propaganda on Meta sans fact-checkers…this feels surreal and deeply infuriating. #booksky #tiktok #meta

We owe a great debt to the firefighting crews now battling the blazes. Those crews, not incidentally, include over 900 inmates from California prisons.

are you ok? no, i don’t have a bookcase with a decoy book that when you pull on it a hidden door opens that reveals a spiral staircase leading down to a secret room with a coffee bar and an unlimited supply of snacks.

Holy shit I learned so much. If you grew up in a conservative community and have only learned American history through the US public school system, check this out. From Columbus to Clinton, Zinn brings to light the bloody reality of Native Americans, BIPOC, persons experiencing poverty, and others

Took a break from my nonfiction kick to read The Shining by @stephenking.bsky.social. Shoutout to my local bookstore for recommending this banned book! I’m not one for horror/thrillers, but holy hell, this book was written SO WELL! The slow real-feeling descent into madness will stay w/me for awhile

This one took ✨ a minute ✨ and was time well-spent. Power wrote this with a vulnerability that put her intelligence and humanness on display simultaneously that was comforting. Samantha’s unfiltered book was riveting to me as an ambitious and idealist AFAB person who feels consumed by her mistakes.❤️

I think I am gonna have to mute the term "unprecendented times." the only unprecendented part of our current moment is the climate crisis. everything else is very very precedented!! every time I see someone say "unprecedented times," I want to run into a brick wall as fast as I can.

I grew up Mormon in a small, rural, very conservative community in Idaho, and while Tara’s experience was far more extreme than mine, there were parts of her story where I felt like I was reading my own journal, especially how she described discovering feminism. This was such an enjoyable memoir!

This book inspires such a cool perspective shift! I recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a surface-level explanation of how any organization/world/children’s fight/car lot works on a systemic level, especially if you have any level of accountability for a program. #booksky #nonprofitmanager

If you ever find yourself saying “you can’t say anything these days,” or “what’s the deal with pronouns?” or “why are people still up-in-arms about racism? That’s so last century,” (I have said a version of all of these phrases in recent history), I super duper extra recommend this book!!

This weekend’s reading 📚 Etaf Rum and @austinchanning.bsky.social are AMAZING writers! If you like having your whiteness challenged, I recommend I’m Still Here. If you want an illustrative glimpse into the life of a Palistinian immigrant woman, read A Woman is No Man. #whitefratility #freePalestine
