Last March, I wrote that President Biden's Executive Order 14110, on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence, could be repealed as early as January, 2025, which is exactly what happened today.

So while I can’t get into the specifics of Anna Makanju’s comments, it’s clear that there are two near-term potential outcomes when it comes to developing AI policy: President Biden’s Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy AI could be repealed as early as January, 2025 (depending on the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election) and “the Brussels effect is real” (in fact, the only attributable quote to Anna Makanju that day).
