and maybe focus on a small city or contained environment to start and let the character roam and explore that (monsters in sewers make a great city dungeon for example. 1 player as a rogue pulling heists can work as well. Lots of possibilities to make it work, but all require some effort/work.

your imagination & the time you have to commit to making it work. The first time I played D&D in '81 it was just the DM & me, I died quickly but I loved it and was hooked. But I would look at fiction like Conan or Fafhhrd & Gray Mouser for inspiration of how to design adventures for few players. 5/

with that, if you want a soldier sidekick it could be a dog or world, a helper/skill sidekick could be a fairy or whatever your imagination provides. The rules are written can be difficult for 1 player, but the rules are guidelines that you tweak for your table make it possible, limited only by 4/

in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything has rules for creating sidekicks to help a character out. If your player wants to be a wizard, it might be a soldier to handle some of the fighting, or a healer or what have you. Less powerful than a PC but a helper for small or weak parties. You can do lots 3/

One of our current games is DM + 2 players (I'm DM). A lot falls on the DM to populate the world (most of the role play will fall on the DM playing everybody else). Combat encounters have to be rebalanced or reimagined-certain resources will be lacking. One option... 2/

You can but it takes work. Most published adventures are for 4-6 characters, so you'd have to do a lot of alteration or design your own. The game balance is set for that 4-6 character mark, but you can design things for solo play. There were a few old school modules published by TSR for solo play 1/

Of those, Double Indemnity would be my first choice. I love that movie. Noir at its best.

No I haven't. I liked Grossman's The Codex but ardently disliked The Magicians (actually flung it across the room in frustration and never picked it up to finish it) and haven't read anything else by him since.

I liked but didn't love this book. I will eventually get to book 2, but I have a lot of other stuff I want to get to first. It was a bit of a slow read to me, not bad, but it felt like it was taking a lot of time and effort to get through sections w/o intentionally slowing to savor them.

Awesome pick ups. Glad you had a great show. Sometimes those small shows deliver big joy.

me too-I follow the maxim follow your bliss when it comes to collecting. I collect books that bring me joy to own or read whether or not others consider them collectible, hot, key, or trash run filler. I want my collection to reflect and express me, not youtube influencers' tastes. It's unique to me

My dad was with me and that was a comic he read as a kid, and the dealer was super nice, he held the comic and flipped the pages so we could both read it, me for the first time, my dad reliving childhood memories. One of my favorite collecting memories.

One dealer in particular used to have double digit copies of every issue of FF 1-20 on sale every show, multiple Avengers 1, 4 ASM 1, Hulk 1-6, etc. DC Silver and GA were harder to find though. One show, one dealer had a complete run of Captain America Comics 1-20 he had just acquired. 4/5

and in the mid to late 80s prices began skyrocketing as "investors" started buying in, but he ran a monthly Elks Hall con and we used to play a game of count the AF #15 on sale, and in the 2 years I went to show I never saw less than 3 copies for sale at any of the shows.... 3/4
