Ultimately the correct solution to 'some people can't afford essential journeys' is to give those people, specifically, a cash transfer. Don't do a fare freeze, don't do weird things that are just attempts to do social policy, badly, via a clever-clever mechanism.

This Park Row scheme is not open yet! It looks like the best scheme in Bristol for a decade. Elsewhere you mention the Portway for which a scheme has just passed FBC but that is a missed opportunity; just minor widening of an existing shared pavement not a separate cycle path.

Thoughtful article. May I ask why you don't ride a bike? Most people won't cycle because of the traffic but successful journalists, like politicians, tend to be assertive and confident precisely the minority who will cycle despite the traffic.
