Hypnotizing trough a language barrier

Cute!

Again, imagining hypnosis as a language, a vibrant community makes it alive and in perpetual movement (with ups and downs, some changes to the lexicon to me look like a change towards more marketable and easy to digest), whilist a fractured community makes it a weird dialect, that no one understands

It might be cause, we got late to the party with mesmerism in the 1800s, then it became all the rage in the early 1900s and then we simply stopped talking about hypnotism in public spaces. Most of our most famous vanilla hypnotists are actually mesmerists.

And again, I am no community leader, we don't really have a community, but I find fascinating how less we work towards a modern idea of hypnotism so to speak.

Mostly cause there is no real research, but taking bullet points from other countries, and then regurgitate them in italian.
Which doesn't translate well if you pardon the pun. So most of the terms we use are a mixture of generic things or a bad localization of what our american pals use
June 26, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Which is weird, cause in my head the two things are obviously different. But having a very small community (if no community at all) doesn't help
June 26, 2025 at 5:24 PM
Since I come from a different country, I always find your perspetive fascinating. That's cause in Italy, we tend to mutuate a lot from American culture, although with a... slower pace. In this case for example we used to talk about "hyperemperia" and called it "somnambulism"
June 26, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Oh come on! That's unfair
