Not a bad little view from my room, Europe's greatest river (apart from the Volga) in one of its most beautiful cities #Danube #Budapest

Not my actual plane, the one next to it, but you get the idea. Flights to Budapest are about 3 hours from Madrid, so too short to warrant free food and inflight entertainment - good opportunity to finish my book

Last trip of a long and difficult year

A bit less sure about my music purchases, I'd researched a few that I couldn't find except this Replikas CD, but - on advice - went for Cem Karaca too, father of Anatolian rock, who might not be up my street, but the guys in the shop were so proud of him I couldn't say no

Happy to find this book on my Istanbul tour - I've read some Orhan Pamuk but fancied this by Elif Shafak

Fancy metro here in Tashkent

Flying visit to a lonely sunny and warm Tashkent

Exciting - don't often get the chance to go on a proper train. Heading north.

I don't really take many photos at gigs, I like to live in the moment and enjoy the music, but this time I erroneously stayed in the balcony so a lot of the music was drowned out by the many people who come to a gig to chitchat with their friends #CountingCrows

My Brussels swag

Poor start to today's journey, security strikes at the airport mean I'm going in early, but the trains have a different idea - delays...

Four stars?

My favourite pic from today's lengthy walk around Porto

The river Minho looking towards the Atlantic, forming the border of Portugal and Spain - I quite fancy buying that island, cracking off-grid spot that would make.

Yes, it's a crocheted turkey (Vila Nova de Cerveira)

So we've been mainly heading to the more protected beaches in the estuaries (or fjords, whatever they are) which are much less exposed to wind, but then don't have much in the way of waves - so less fun. The water is too cold too, so a bit one-dimensional as beach experiences go.

The Atlantic beaches here in Ferrol area (Galicia, Spain) are stunning, but the water is ice cold and this year they're too windy for my liking

Just tried this record shop Discos Memphis - closed... according to the sign they open when they want, close when they go... so, not very professional... might try again because I'm sure it's a decent shop, but really not impressed with this time wasting nonsense.

I love the old-fashioned name of this shop in Ferrol, it translates as Widow of Pedro Fernández. I'd like to turn it into a bar, and keep the same name, although I seem to be alone in thinking this'd be cool.

Windy again today, I suspect we'll be going to the sheltered beaches on the rias - here's a photo of two people I don't know going to the beach here

Daisy Duke certainly likes the beach, especially now there's a little bit they actually allow doggos on - it's not quite gold-standard in the dog-friendly department but it's pretty good and getting better - a million miles from when I first came here in 93

Scorchio in Ferrol today, and although the Caranza beach is not exactly the Caribbean, being nestled between shipyards and electricity pylons, it is rather lovely on a hot summer's day

Saw AC/DC last night, and maybe I'm getting old and curmudgeonly but I thought it was a bit loud - still enjoyed it mind, they were great, but I needed a long old sit down after standing up for so long.
