Growing up in the Bay Area, my mom worked in a hospital. Around ‘81 she came home whispering to the older siblings about “gay cancer” and seemed scared to even talk about it. She was shook to her core by what she was seeing. Went to her grave hating Reagan and all the bastards who did nothing.

Houston, early 80s, the owner and namesake of Rocky’s Pizza (a Philly transplant) who made the greatest meatball sub and gave a fleet of punk kids like me delivery jobs without busting our balls. Shot dead one day by his best friend from Philly, a pill head. Mob hit? Girl spat? We never found out.
