More BBC4 than ITV4.
In #mathstoday I'll be teaching the roots of unity to my Y13 furthers. It always makes me think of a 1970s prog rock band 🤣

I've spent some time today sorting out letter tiles ready to assign values to each one (like Scrabble) so we have a very clear non normally distributed population from which we sample. We can then calculate the mean score of our samples and do a Central Limit Theorem experiment for #mathstoday

In #mathstoday me and my Y13 FM students did a fun tarsia puzzle from @susanwhitehouse.bsky.social on De Moivre's theorem 😁
Quality resources as ever from Susan ✅

We're about to start our interrail adventure. What a better place to start than here. The George Stephenson statue outside of the station in the town where he is buried 🚂

I asked Gemini... Oh the irony

@jrub.bsky.social I am so grateful you posted about this book. I'm using it today for the 1st time! My plan is to infiltrate the regular exercises with a few of these everywhere I can. #mathstoday should bring a smile to some faces

Is it this?

In #mathstoday my Y12s matched up an equation to its graph & its derivative and the graph of its derivative. I know the derivatives should have been called dy/dx, but then I'd need to make my graph axis says the same! Anyway, the point was to identify "key features" between the 2 graphs.

In #mathstoday I got the opportunity to use my favourite pair of compasses! BTW, I am yet to find any school compasses that are not utterly rubbish. Feel free to convince me otherwise

I've started the topic of differentiation in #mathstoday with my Y12 class. The pun works for our local dialect, but I understand it might not translate widely 🤣

In #mathstoday I finally got to use my little cars to demonstrate connected particles, friction, horizontal motion and tension 😍

And in tuition #mathstoday, we recapped a bit of Y12 stats as a quick starter. It's important not to neglect some of the "easier" topics

It might be getting close to Xmas, but we're doing practice papers in #mathstoday

In #mathstoday I did some work with a low prior attaining Y10 group on pie charts. They understood what to do but almost always faced the hurdle of not knowing their times tables. They were desperate to use their calculator throughout 🫤
Oh and the resources were from GoTeachMaths

In #mathstoday I've been playing with functions. Well, function machine robots actually 🤖🤖

And I've just bought these for when we get to connected particles 🚙🚗🚚

In #mathstoday I did an introduction lesson to Y12 mechanics. Lots of discussions about using the right terminology and looking at the physical objects we'll be facing in the questions

As a busy person most of the time, I cherish these times where I have a bit of free time while waiting for my car to be serviced. I have a couple of hours to do the NYT games, have a coffee, check out Bluesky 💙
