When the snow starts falling, it is time to do some #baking
It has been a while since I've made biscuits, so am looking forward to these.

As much as I enjoy watching the creatures that come to eat the seeds I put out for them, sometimes they enjoy watching me.

It is a cold (-14C) and snowy morning.
This lovely cardinal helps to brighten up the morning.

Bunnies in my area typically show up at twilight or dawn to munch on any bird seed that might still be on the ground.
The chubby guy seemed to consider himself invisible when he steped behind the branches.

The sparrow gang has convened to plan their next heist. There appears to be a heated discussion about something.

It is a cold snowy day here, so to cheer myself up I baked these Irish clove-ginger cookies.
A tasty way to put aside the cares of the world, if only for a short time.

Unlike #birds who see themselves as superheros, squirrels are the bullies and villains.
Sometimes when they hunch over and rub their hands together, I can hear them cackling, "Mwah hah hah!".

#birds see themselves as superheros, and I am tempted to believe them.
They can fly, have fantastic reflexes, and can dash about at tremendous speeds.
Sometimes they like to sit on a fence and strike a superhero pose.

When you stare at the #birds , sometimes they stare back.
Judging you.
Encouraging you to reconsider your life choices.

The #birds offer a never-ending display of drama.

"I'm tired of your bullshit, Frank. We're done."

The #birds enjoy the seeds I scatter around for them.
Their favorite locations are under brush...in this case a rose bush.
The birds don't weigh very much, but after a while they can pack down the snow a surprising amount. The squirrels help with that, too, of course.

A chilly Sunday morning is a good time to bake.
I baked these donuts, coated them with sugar-cinnamon, and am now waiting for them to cool.

The #birds enjoy the bird feeders, as well as the scattered seeds on the ground.
The birds and squirrels take turns enjoying what I put out for them.
I don't put out too much for them, aiming to provide a snack rather than being a sole source of food.
Always fun to watch their interactions.

We've had a lot of snow over the past couple of days; 30-ish cm.
The road plows have come twice in that time, and this morning's pass left yet another ridge of wet packed snow at the end of the driveway.
Even my snowblower laboured to handle the wet sloppy mass.

The red squirrels in my yard don't come out as often as their larger cousins, but are still pretty saucy critters even in winter.

My baking on Christmas Eve morning was a batch of scones.
Very tasty.

Today's #Christmas #baking is vanilla sugar cookies with vanilla icing.
These lovelies are about 3 inches (8 cm) in diameter.
Can't wait to try one!

Cardinals are a welcome flash of colour all year round, but especially in the winter months.
They are, however, quite shy. Also hate having their picture taken.
As soon as I snapped this pic the cardinal looked at me, glared, then flew away.

It isn't just #birds that eat the birdseed.
But it is unusual for the bunnies to come out at noon for a meal ... I usually see "traces" (ie. poop) in the snow. Or, perhaps, a quick sighting at dawn or twilight. This brave (or hungry) little fellow came out for a lunchtime snack.

I'm always amazed at how well the birds dig seeds out of the snow. They'll also use their feet as pretty efficient shovels!
Also, look at the talons on this sparrow!

This is the first of two batches.

Today's #Christmas #baking effort is snickerdoodles.
Not fancy, but very tasty.
