1. Geordie Greep - The New Sound

All the revolutionaries. All the jihadis too. They all know that he's holy

Greep makes his solo debut with perhaps his boldest statement yet. The New Sound is everything I loved about black midi, expanded upon. Unhinged instrumentation and even less hinged lyricism

2. Vylet Pony - Monarch of Monsters

Ok, hear me out...

No, really. I didn't expect to be blown away by a pony album but this thing is unbelievable. There's a ton of different influences being drawn from here, from quirky indie dance-pop to noise rock, and it does it all so well.

3. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

My favorite pop album of this year, and maybe the best produced album of the year. Its dense psychedelia and whisper vocals along with its synth heavy grooves and catchy melodies adds an almost shoegaze quality to some of the finest synthpop I've ever heard

4. Swans - Live Rope

LIVE ROPE BABYYY. This is a 3 hour long Swans live album. I was made in a test tube specifically to listen to this shit. Bonus points for the fact that I was literally at the show this was recorded at earlier this year.

This is post-reunion Swans at their most tribal.

5. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World

At 65 years old, Robert Smith is not the oldest person to be featured on this list (that's up next), but regardless, this is one of the most impressive comeback albums I've ever heard. Probably my favorite Cure album if I'm being honest. Super dark, yet dreamy

6. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To

Crunchy as fuck. Quick and to the point. Very loud. Big fan.

7. MIRAR - Mare

Imagine death metal but EDM. That's it.

8. Eunuchs - Harbour Century

What Eunuchs lack in any understanding of how to mix music (seriously the mixing could use some work), they make up for in personality, engaging story telling, and loud, complex instrumentation. This album is really about the musicianship above all else.

9. Maruja - Connla's Well

Maruja follows up last year's Knocknarea with another EP of intense, angsty jazz-rock that has me awaiting their debut album with baited breath.

It's about that time of the year where I rank my favorite albums/eps that released in the last 12 months. 2024 was easily one of the strongest years for music that I've witnessed

10. glass beach - plastic death

Very sonically bright and colorful rock music. It's emo but not in the cringe way

still workshopping this one

3. While twitter's approach of "the best way to combat misinfo is with MORE free speech!!!!!!!!" has obviously been a disaster, i can't help but notice that the logic of this skeet could be used to justify that as well.

Just replace "bluesky is an echochamber" with "twitter is full of misinfo"
