I’m firmly in the camp that it is ok to have strained relationships with family and friends that warrant loving them from a distance. Not all relationships warrant immediate repair and acceptance. It does not eliminate feelings of sadness or loss, but your mental well-being is equally important.

This is a great thread. Growing up we had relish trays at holiday meals with sweet pickles, black olives, jarred pearl onions, pickled beets maybe? I’m guessing it was picked from the German communities in Texas? I recall “fancy” restaurants having them as well.
I am going to use this lovely post as an excuse to ask a question that has plagued my adulthood: is the idea of a “relish tray” a regional thing or is it just that my family didn’t do it? If someone asked me to bring one to a gathering i would have genuinely no idea what they meant
