Folsom Lake, CA. I've reached a milestone–developing film at home. As a student, I’ve had access to darkrooms and the gear necessary to develop film, but that access will be limited. Developing at home feels like I’ve become more independent and free to shoot film without as many restrictions.

Every once in a while I have this dream where I discover a room in my house that I didn’t know existed before. It’s such a feeling of expansiveness and promise. That’s how I felt when I found out you can expose photographs straight onto photographic paper.

In an effort to learn how to photograph clear glass, I headed to my garage with my light kit, camera, and a couple of champaign flutes. mraymondgreer.com/photologue/f...

A few portraits from Folsom last spring. People are generous and kind enough to have their photo taken. It helps that I had the Mamiya C330. They might not have been so willing had I used my phone. #folsom #mamiya #mediumformat #film #bw

A few images using a makeshift 4x5 pinhole camera (well the only makeshift part is the "lens" made from a piece of aluminum). Shot on paper negatives (with at least one pretty serious light leak). More tinkering needed.

Scanned/Inverted

I really like how this turned out. The combination of softness and contrast is arresting.

A man and his dog and a dog and his man. You know when a set like this is a perfect match. I’m sorry I didn’t catch his name. Great pair.

I took the C330 out with the simple, but difficult task of asking people if I could take their portrait. Granted the old camera provided a point of introduction, but it did feel awkward, at least at first. I quickly realized though how friendly and accommodating people are.

I didn't spend much time there, but I did manage to snap this photo at Point Lobos State Nature Reserve. As I think about what's happening with the federal government, I'm even more appreciative of our #CAStateParks and the stewards who maintain and protect them.

A portrait taken with a 4x5 view camera and enlarged to an 8x10 print. Large format is, as I am learning, a slow and deliberate process, but it lends itself to a more natural portrait. It's an interesting intersect between process and product.

The mixed weather made for a good walk at the Cosumnes River Preserve this morning, where I was able to snap this nugget. I'd love to explore the area more.

When we bought this place, it came with several rose bushes planted all around. The ladies who had owned the place passed on, but their roses stay robust and produce some wonderful blooms year after year. #bw #rose #nb #spring

Lately, Ranger and I have been taking our long walks at Folsom Lake. But one place we often go that's a little closer to home is the bridge near Sunrise Ave. I'm just realizing it has become a significant landmark for me.

RIP, David Lynch. Truly one of the great weirdoes in film and television history.

Ranger and I are putting our Golden Poppy Pass (CA state parks) to good use at Beals Point, Folsom Lake. The low water levels have created a sort of moonscape to wander through.
