Well, it's time. I'm releasing my tool that lets you aggregate patch and update status of hosts over ssh on unix-like systems.

The github repository has details as well as links to the exhaustive documentation.

It is my hope that at least another person […]

I was editing some documentation only to discover the sphinx theme I use was now was covered in in artifacts, and I spent some time looking at the dependency changes.

The outcome is: I need to clean my protrait monitor...

I keep forgetting how rewarding it is to finish a core feature of something and then making a small bit of UI or command that shows the state of it.

You get to have a Nice Visual for your hard work and see it going somehow.

I've been adding some form of SSH pipelining to Exosphere, my patch reporting program for remote unix systems.

The idea was that I could just remove connection lifecycle handling entirely from package manager providers and setup/discovery code, and manage that from within the task runners.

So […]

So I just finished removing netdata from all my systems, purging every trace of it, deleting nodes and workspaces, and ultimately my account.

It feels like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders, now that i know I never have to think or feel anything about it again.

To their merit […]

The quality of netdata's install scripts has always been abysmal, but it's been getting progressively worse over time.

I was wondering why, after reporting some really obvious oversight and some questionable use of find globs that caused the install script to just... not work.

Then today I saw […]

FInally caved in and vacuumed the electric heating plinth in my office to reduce the Imminent Housefire Scents, before turning it on because my toes were numb.

As it is toasting or slow roasting whatever crud remains in it, it is currently emitting a very […]

Given the memory prices, maybe it's time to bring this back to reflect reality?

I've been kind of sitting there wondering what remains on my Blockers List to actually switch my Desktop to Linux.

The list is shrinking but I think I have it boiled down to "Ableton pls just release Live for Linux you cowards" and "But my homelab Active Directory..."

SO, I switched from KDE Neon on my laptop to Fedora 43, mostly driven by recent hiccups, upgrade issues and unstable stuff, coupled with the userland getting crustier than I'd like.

As an early report so far: I don't hate it? It's actually quite nice?

I hadn't done redhat based on desktop […]

Someone on the Steam subreddit was asking for Valve to make a #steamos phone (seeing how the new VR headset is Arm but also playes x86 steam games). And I thought "Hey, I've already got #postmarketos on a phone. We know Valve is using some 'FEX' library. How hard […]

Ok I've put it off for long enough, and KDE Neon got one too many Broken Dependencies while just existing. I'm doing a big tarball of my home directory, wiping the disks and giving Fedora 43 Plasma Desktop a fair shake.

Is it me or has PySide/Qt6 gotten way nicer to use with Python in the past, I don't know, 8+ years? I remember using PyQt4 and having a Not Incredible Time.

I had a dream where a museum heist was happening and it failed and someone said to "reset the jimmy jamb" referring to some false ceiling made of some rough textile.

I barely remember the dream but "resetting the jimmy jamb" has been bouncing in my head since.

In prevision of my on-call rotation maybe sucking (it hasn't so far, knocking on wood), I've done biphasic sleep all week.

I just kind of go to bed at 8pm, wake up at 12am, then go back to bed around 3-4am and wake up in time for work.

I feel less tired than I have in months somehow?

Kind of lost in Valve's announcement of a new steam console and HMD, but I'm genuinely excited for a new version of the Steam Controller.
