TomBahambadil @[S] -9 points 4 hours ago* Really surprised to hear how many ideas I agree with Jordan on. My own huge change to the schedule would start with a 26 race regular season. We're moving Daytona 500 to the week before the super bowl. Season ends in Mid July, then a few weeks off before the really big idea. Sell a ten race package unlike anything NASCAR has done before. Sell it to either NETFLIX or HBOmax. This will appeal to the old school fan and be unique enough to attract new fans. 12 3-car teams. All have to share a single sponsor so the cars match. Cars are all spec and provided by NASCAR. The teams will not be told in advance what they are starting with. They will not be allowed to study the car. Teams arrive at the tracks on Tuesday to cars already wrapped with their provided designs. They get one hour a day Tuesday thru Friday to practice and work on the car. Otherwise it's impounded. Saturday is for qualifying, and Sunday is race day. This will lead into the NFL season, but if we can get fans into a rhythm of following all week with the culmination on Sunday, they might be invested enough to stick around. This will provide the media with the full week of things to talk about. Most of all, it's different enough that the 26 race champion isn't being stepped on. DaleJr- [score hidden] an hour ago I wish this were true. I didn't say that 3/3/4 was unlikely. It's actually what I bet we get. (I prefer full 36) But I don't recall implying 3/3/4 was unlikely. I did speak to how 3/3/4 with no points resets and 10 race playoff could be viewed as similar. My NASCAR playoffs solution The regular season stays 26 races, but stage points are now weighted slightly heavier depending on the length of the race. Short tracks have a 1.1x multiplier, intermediates are 1.0x, and superspeedways drop to 0.9x for fairness. Road courses get a 1.2x multiplier because they’re “driver skill” tracks, and NASCAR wants to encourage diversity of performance. After the regular season, the top 15 drivers in points automatically make the playoffs. Then two “wildcard” spots go to the drivers with the most stage wins who aren’t already locked in, and the final spot goes to whichever driver has the best average running position across the last five races of the regular season. That gives us a 18-driver playoff field, because an odd number just feels wrong. Points reset to 2,000, but every stage win during the regular season is worth one playoff point, and race wins are worth five. However, from this point on, playoff points can compound. So if you win a race in the Round of 16, you get five playoff points that carry forward and also increase your existing total by 10%. So if you already had 20 playoff points and win a race, you now have 27.5. The Round of 18 lasts three races, and the bottom six in total points after those races are eliminated. However, if one of those six happens to have led the most green-flag laps during the round, they can replace the lowest-remaining driver. That leaves us with 13 drivers, which NASCAR calls “The Baker’s Dozen Round,” because marketing. The next round trims from 13 to 8, again over three races. Stage points are doubled in this round to emphasize “clutch performance,” but cautions within five laps of a stage end are now worth +1 “resilience point” to any playoff driver who avoids the incident. Those are tallied separately and only used as tiebreakers. Finally, we reach the Championship 5. The highest finisher among those five in the four race finale still wins the championship, but here’s the kicker: t…
