Today I celebrate two very important work milestones:

My 10-year anniversary as a software developer at The New York Times, and

MY FIRST EVER STRIKE FOR A CONTRACT! I'll be on the picket line for the afternoon shift with a bunch of my amazing colleagues.

I’m extremely disappointed with the NYTimes management. Hey fellow tech friends, Stand with us, all the tech workers who make wonderful things happen. I am proud to #BreakMyStreak, boycotting @NYTGames, and will strike alongside my coworkers until @NYTimes agrees to a fair contract!
We are on ULP strike. We gave @nytimes.com management months of notice of our strike deadline, we made ourselves available around the clock, but the company has decided that our members aren’t worth enough to agree to a fair contract and stop committing unfair labor practices.

This is a big deal. My former coworkers at the times have gone on strike against management unfair, labor practices. You can support them by breaking your game streak.

I know that I can feel kind of painful, but people’s livelihoods are on the line. Let’s help them out!

I stand with my colleagues in @nytguildtech.bsky.social - they build wonderful tools to engage our audience, showcase our journalism and delight our readers. They deserve a fair contract and I am absolutely flabbergasted that the company would let it get to this point without seeing that.

I've now read the WaPo and NYT coverage of the NYT Tech Guild strike and neither mentioned how the company's CEO made $7,554,938 in total compensation (salary/bonus/etc) in 2022 vs $10,266,182 in 2023. Sulzberger made $3,800,016 in 2022 vs $5,766,939 in 2023.
